1) If you'd like to play along, reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2) You then list (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 (or 6 or 7) songs that start with that letter (feel free to explain why you chose the songs).
3) Then, as I'm doing here, you'll post the list to your journal with the instructions.

I got S from [ profile] vierran45.

Music for the day. Yesterday me & my mother went to see an opera at the movie theatre. They've been showing 'The Met: Live in HD' operas for two(?) years now, but this was the first time I actually went to see one. (I've seen only one "real" opera at Tampere Hall years ago. And the one time I went to the National Opera in Helsinki, it was to see a ballet, not an opera. But I do like watching operas on tv.) Yesterday's opera was Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas. Beautiful music, wonderful voices and fine acting, if you ask me. (Not that I know anything about opera...)

Hamlet - Simon Keenlyside
Ophelia - Marlis Petersen
Gertrude - Jennifer Larmore
Laertes - Toby Spence
Claudius - James Morris

Here you can see Natalie Dessay (Ophelia) and Simon Keenlyside (Hamlet) in 2003/2004. Natalie Dessay was supposed to sing also in the Met's production, but she had to withdraw due to illness and Marlis Petersen replaced her.

Music for the day. Metsatöll and Eesti rahvusmeeskoor performing Oma laulu ei leia ma üles

I think this is the original Oma laulu ei leia ma üles:
(Or the song might be older than that... but I don't know.)

Kiusaanpa teitä taas YouTuben musiikkivideolla, kun en ole mitään saanut luettua.
Tässä CCR:ää Children of Bodomin kohtapuoliin julkaistavalta cover-levyltä Skeletons in the Closet.

Last weekend I spent my Sunday at Ankkarock in Vantaa. It was a long day... I got up at seven in the morning (the bus left quite early) and returned home around 2 a.m. In addition to the bands I went there to see, I ended up watching Pintandwefall's gig in its entirety (those girls were energetic and funny!), the tail-end of Apulanta's set and also Volbeat's gig (they were a bit boring, imo). Oh, and Testament's gig was shown also on Korsolava stage's screens, so I saw parts of their show, too. (Lots of pit action going on in there. Yikes!)

The three I actually wanted to see:

YouTuben syövereissä taas kerran. Nyt onnistuin jotenkin päätymään Negativen Sinä ja minä -coveriin, mistä sitten tietysti siihen ihan aitoon asiaan. Eipä ole iäisyyksiin näitä tullut kuunneltua. Näköjään mukana pystyy laulamaan edelleen ihan sujuvasti.

I've been meaning to post this for a month now... Better late than never, eh?
In the beginning of June I was at the Sauna Open Air metal festival. Why? Because my favourite cello rockers were playing there on Friday [BTW, if anyone is interested, Apocalyptica's recent gig at Ilosaarirock is available at Yle Areena for 30 days:] and on Sunday I wanted to see Nightwish and Stratovarius. This year's Sauna wasn't very sauna-like. It was quite cold on Friday (+7°C, cloudy, occasional showers), but it wasn't too bad - it was just a matter of dressing according to weather. Still, I was glad it was warmer on Sunday (+16°C and sunny). On Friday I was there with a colleague of mine, and on Sunday I went just by myself. Saturday was the festival's biggest day (10 000 visitors) because Mötley Crüe was headlining then, but I wasn't there - I was at the Finnish bookcrossers' summer meet-up in Nauvo.

Some pictures and a bunch of MySpace and YouTube links (clips of varying quality) under the cut.

Kaivoin todella pitkästä aikaa Studio Julmahuvi -dvd:t esiin ja olen nyt niitä katsellut tässä jonkin verran lauantain iloksi. Hilpeyttä. :-D Näköjään näitä on jonkin verran laitettu tuubiinkin.

Maybe it is the weather (warm and sunny) or thinking about summer festivals or something, but for some reason I had this sudden urge to listen to some Ultra Bra today. And now I have four songs (or choruses) on repeat in my head. [Earworm infection warning. Click 'play' at your own risk.]

Buffy: "You know what I feel? Bored."

I haven't read the book yet (it's in my TBR pile), but I actually went to the movies to see this stupid and boring film. (That was in February.) Was there anything I liked about it? Well, the forest(s) looked beautiful. And the long-haired baddie vampire dude was kinda nice to look at. Otherwise? Blah.

"Listen to Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle's performance of Cry Me A River, recorded for a charity CD in 1999, here."

"Susan, 48, of Blackburn, West Lothian, has gone from obscurity to worldwide fame in less than a week after her amazing Britain’s Got Talent debut. So far, her performance of I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables has attracted more than 16 MILLION hits on YouTube. And yesterday, she was doing the rounds of America’s top morning TV chat shows."

Everyone's probably seen this by now...
