It's always great to receive an email telling me that one of my wild releases has been caught. :-)
Today I received a PM about this book: http://bookcrossing.com/journal/2209562

It wasn't a great book by any means, so I'm happy that the finder bothered to make a journal entry.
Now my catch rate is... 104 released, 38 caught, that makes... 36,5 % - that's pretty good!

I went to see the film Constantine on Saturday and that gave me the urge to reread these. In these books Constantine gets diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, tricks Lucifer (again), gets dumped by his girlfriend, hits rock bottom and lives on the streets, falls under a spell of another magician, and that's not all...
Constantine is a chain-smoking, sarcastic and world-weary character. He is known to treat his few friends like dirt. And because of his line of 'work', his acquaintances aren't well-known for their longevity.

"Friend of yours?"
"Must be. He's dead."

Yep, Constantine's quite an interesting character, and despite the evidence, he can be a nice guy when he wants to...

John Constatine has also made appearences in other graphic novels - those are listed here.
Another Hellblazer site here.

And the film then?
I expected the film to be really bad. It wasn't. Or at least in my opinion it wasn't. Aamulehti's reviewer gave it only one star in today's paper... C'mon! It was better than that!
I thought it captured the tone of the graphic novels quite well. Obviously they had made some changes. One of those was the character of Chas - the taxi driver was now a younger "apprentice type". Keanu was okay as Constantine, although he didn't look scruffy enough (in the books Constantine is often in a pretty bad shape). Part of the plot was taken from Dangerous Habits - there might've been bits and pieces from the other books, but I didn't recognize them.
Sure, the plot wasn't exactly great, and there were some silly things in the film (cross-shaped gun, anyone?), but I enjoyed it anyway - probably because I didn't go to see it thinking it would be a faithful, page by page adaptation of the graphic novels.
